  • Ease your transition from high school to college

Through relationships with role models, gain the confidence and perspective necessary to be productive members of a global and multicultural workforce.

Benefits of Having a Mentor

  • Role models for a lifetime
  • Access to a new community
  • Broader networks through your mentor
  • Encouragement and support
  • Inside knowledge of "dos" and "dont's"

Apply to Become a Peer Mentor

Mentors serve as a resource for mentees, providing them with information to help them acclimate to the University of Maryland.  Mentors serve as a sounding board for the various issues that confront new students - such as what classes to take, how to interact with an advisor, joining professional societies and other concerns.  The new students need someone they can talk to who understands the pressures they face as engineering students who also happen to be under-represented.  Mentees have said that it is just nice to know that someone was there that they could go to.
